In a single day you cover the most important sites in the valley with transport, guide and lunch taken care of. In exchange it is a long day on a fixed schedule: if you prefer travelling slowly or sleeping in the valley, another way of visiting may suit you better.

What you should know

It is a long day: 11 h (Classic) or 12–13 h (VIP).
Time at each site is set by the group, not by you.
Entrance tickets are paid separately.
It includes a stop at the Pisac market; buying anything is optional.
Rain does not stop the tour; only extreme weather forces a reschedule.

One day or two?

In one day you see the essentials with the logistics handled. In two days, sleeping in the valley, you can go slower and add markets or hikes, but you will have to sort transport and accommodation. For most travellers short on time in Cusco, the day tour is the most efficient option.

Before or after Machu Picchu?

Before usually works better. Much of the valley sits lower than Cusco, which helps you acclimatise, and you can end the tour in Ollantaytambo and catch the train without returning to the city.
